Acne can be prevented by avoiding certain foods and substances and by getting some which are vital to having healthy skin. One of those substances which should be avoided is caffeine. According to a plastic surgeon in the Philippines, if one cannot avoid taking caffeine in, because work demands that one stays awake all the time, then at least its intake should be reduced. Caffeine induces the onset of acne because it increases the levels of stress hormones in the body which in turn aggravates acne. Thus, one should avoid eating or drinking coffee, tea, chocolate, and other stimulant containing drinks, for these are rich in caffeine.

Another group of food that should be avoided is dairy and red meat. These substances are harmful for the skin in many ways. First, they contain high levels of hormones which, as we already know, tend to result in more acne. Furthermore, they also affect the onset of acne through the digestive system. A healthy skin is affected by healthy internal organs. The digestive organs cannot be healthy if one takes a regular intake of too much dairy products and red meat. This is because these products are hard to digest. They also form acids in the body. Thus, where one’s digestive system is problematic because it finds it hard to digest high levels of animal protein, then the body will not be able to get rid of waste products effectively.
