A hemorrhagic cyst sounds scary, but in reality is usually a completely natural and normal part of the menstrual cycle of many women. Most disappear before you are even aware you have one. At least this is the case for most women, but for those of us with a bit less luck we can be debilitated by them.

Although most of these cysts are technically harmless, their effect can be so great that you need to seek treatment.

Conventional Treatment

The most obvious symptom of a hemorrhagic cyst is a sharp pain in your side right before ovulation. Oral birth control pills are usually prescribed for these cysts because they stop you ovulating. The general thought is that if the ovaries do not ovulate, there will be no cyst formation.
