What causes Acne?

First, let’s understand what acne is to before we explore different kinds of acne skincare. Acne is not cause by bad hygiene so don’t try and wash acne away! This will only cause your skin to dry further, peel and invite more bacteria!

Acne is caused by excess oil produced by the oil glands in the skin – the sebaceous glands – in which the hair follicle resides. The cause is usually hormonal, that is, when there is an imbalance leading to excess production of androgen or the male hormone.

Does everyone suffer from them?

Predictably, it strikes usually due to adolescence in both girls and boys and can persist for years. This is why managing the condition, rather than trying to get rid of it, is the best way to approach the condition. Continue reading ‘Natural Herbal Remedies For Acne’ »

It’s an urban myth that skin goes to sleep at night. So let’s FACE THE FACTS.

There are a lot of reasons why skincare products need to be applied at night. In fact, it can be easily argued that nighttime products are more important than daytime, because that’s when the skin repairs itself.

  1. During the day, skin is bombarded with wind, makeup, pollution, sweating, and all of this exhausts the cells. Why? Because the sole purpose of skin is to protect our bodies from outside insults and contaminants. So during the daytime, the skin is busy defending itself from these environmental factors. That’s why, during the day, we apply products that strengthen, hydrate and protect with skin with antioxidants (topically and systemically) and UV protectors. At night, it’s ready to get ready for another day. That’s the time when the cells renew themselves and need to be activated with key ingredients like retinol; surface repair agents, such as ceramides; and anti-inflammatory agents, such as botanicals. These all work together to create skin that is brighter, more even-toned, and hydrated.
So nighttime products are different from daytime products, because the skin’s needs are different.
  2. Many active ingredients in skincare products have a relatively short life, and are deactivated by sunlight. So the really important ingredients—the really good stuff—is rendered useless. So by nighttime, there’s no residual value. Products need to be reapplied.
  3. During the daytime skincare products are rubbed off, sweated off, washed off, wiped off. Or they’re completely absorbed. Moisturizers last only 3-4 hours. Medical treatments require application 2-3 times every 24 hours. I’m a proponent of saturating the skin with active and powerful ingredients so that it’s nourished throughout the day and night. Skin treatment does not have to cost a lot. If you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars for your skin care cure, one is spending too much. Most persons are under the impression that the more money they pay for their skin medication, the better it can work. This is so incorrect and false. First, find a skin treatment good that works well for you at a high priced department shop and purchase it. Once you decide if one likes, make a note of the ingredients in that product. Now, go to any WalMart, Target, or CVS and seem for a good with the same ingredients and get it.

You would find that it works exactly the same because one is not spending for ingredients and quality when one buys the fancy, over priced goods from a department merchant, instead one is spending for the “name brand” and extravagant packaging that it comes in. You would find that many goods, such as Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, and Oil of Olay work the same as Clinique or Estee Lauder that you would spend three times as much for.
